On November 29th and 30th, 2023, Step Change participated in the sixth Forum Citizen Science in Freiburg/Breisgau.
The theme of this year’s event was “Creating Knowledge with Diversity,” and together, Step Change partners; Simona Cerrato (ECSA), Johannes Baumann (WECF), and Carmen Siller (ZSI), organized a 90-minute interactive session titled “Citizen Science Communication: Bundling Diverse Challenges and Experiences for Research.”
Alongside them was Doris Winter, a citizen scientist involved in the Step Change project on Tenant Electricity implemented by WECF, who also participated in the discussion.
The Step Change partners discussed challenges related to diversity on various project levels, with a focus on communication, and also discussed how mutual learning and knowledge exchange activities can be particularly useful.
The workshop garnered lively interest, with participants appreciating the open format, insights from many diverse perspectives (especially from our citizen scientist, Doris), and the interactive elements of the discussion.
The audience itself was diverse, contributing various experiences and questions, resulting in a very fruitful conversation.
We would like to thank the organisers of the Citizen Science Forum for selecting the Step Change project for this session, and Doris Winter for joining us in talking about this important issue.
